By leveraging the official Apple version, EditReady avoids compatibility issues. Many other transcoding apps on the market use a reverse engineered implementation of Apple ProRes. EditReady provides a simple player to view your content, even if it's in a legacy format. Mac users know that just viewing clips with QuickTime X isn't always as easy as we'd like.

CLIPWRAP PC HOW TO
The nice feature of this program though is that i can backup my MTS files to DVD, or other HDD, without having to worry about the structure of it, and then if I ever need the footage again, then I can just use clipwrap, instead of worrying about how to do a "Log and Transfer" when the original file structure is no longer there (to allow FCP to recognize it), which for me is a great advantage.EditReady allows you to screen your camera original media files before you transcode them. I had always used a ProRes workflow in the past, and I can continue to work that way, but had hoped I could somehow reduce my reference file sizes. William, interesting that it plays fine in your FCP viewer, because I was seeing this behavior in my viewer, I hadn't even placed the clip onto the timeline yet. This is especially true if you have an older computer, G5 or any dual-core Intel. Use ClipWrap to transcode your footage to ProRes for any complicated edit, long or short.
Don't edit long projects in AVCHD and by long I mean over 10 minutes. If needed render the audio, apply effects and export. Drop the clips onto a timeline (you can use the native h264 codec but I recommend ProRes in the codec image dimensions you shot in). Here is my AVCHD editing work routine: Find the in and out points in FCP's Viewer which plays the video correctly.
